The Latin verb discurrere meant "to run about", and from this word we get our word discursive , which often means rambling about over a wide range of topics. A discursive writing style generally isn't encouraged by writing teachers. But some of the great 19th-century writers, such as Charles Lamb and Thomas de Quincey, show that the discursive essay, especially when gracefully written and somewhat personal in tone, can be a pleasure to read. And the man often called the inventor of the essay, the great Michel de Montaigne, might touch on dozens of different topics in the course of a long discursive essay.
However, the quality of TV programes has been decreasing over the last few years. In spite of the fact that the number of channels has increased, the programming time is 24 hours a day and the TV sets have improved a lot, sometimes you don’t find any show s worth watching on TV . Violen t and aggressive films, silly programes and a great deal of advertisements discourage people from going on watching TV. What is more, a s far as young people are concerned, lately there are many series that only show a wonderful and easy life, always happy, having what ever they want without effort. As a result , our young people are growing up in (what they think is) an ideal world without problems and too far from reality. On top of everything, communication between family members is decreasing due to the fact that TV is on during the main family meals and they don’t talk to each other any more.
